Are You a Fan of the Fan?

There has been a great Fire service debate about positive pressure ventilation (PPV) specifically when, how, and why to use it. I’ll be the first to say that I am not a big proponent of PPV use during the active phases of fire fighting. I have seen it fail to many times, however for every time I have seen it fail someone will throw in a success story for it. Wether or not you like it or don’t like it you have to respect it and know what effects it can have on the structure during and after fire suppression.

Here is a great article and video from fellow word press bloggers “Irons and Ladders” They had a great pick up on this video and they deserve all the credit, I’m just spreading the gospel on this one.  http://ironsandladders.com/2010/05/13/ppv-and-rapidly-changing-conditions/ Take a look at their site, and apply it to your company, and fire department. If this happened what would you do? What steps can you take to prevent it from happening? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

By the way if you like fire service blogs “Irons and Ladders” is top-notch you should put them in your regular blog  rotation…..well after you check out “Average Jake” of course!
